My name is Charlotte Clark and I am twenty-two
years of age. I am currently a service user at Stonecroft
House near Brigg. In 1999, I started college in Harrogate
until I was nineteen, then I came to Stonecroft in July 2001.
I was very keen to keep up the skills I had learnt at college I was
assessed and it was suggested I go to Lincolnshire House to see what
sort of equipment I needed to type with. I just use a big keys
keyboard now
Diane Patrick manager of Stonecroft and myself filled in the
application form for access funding and the form, which gave me my
travelling expenses.
When I first started going to Lincolnshire House, I travelled
there on a Stonecroft bus with whoever was available. In September
2002 I started going in my van with a volunteer John Northall.
I only went in the morning to learn English, but after Christmas
2002 I also went in the afternoon to learn numbers and math’s.
We had to come back to Stonecroft at lunchtime, because Lincolnshire
House had no available staff to assist me, so it meant I had to take
my lunch in the van and it was very cold in wintertime. I
complained to Ian Milland, the manager at Lincolnshire House about
the travelling and asked if I could stay all day.
On a week when Diane took me, she and Ian sorted it out, so that I
could stay all day with just one trip there and one back.
After September 2003, I started to stay all day and have lunch at
Lincolnshire House. As I can only see out of one eye, I have
been very grateful for the help from Hilary, Peter, Emma and Paul
the teachers. I have learnt to type and I am learning words,
so that I can write my own stories. I am learning numbers,
sums, money and time. All these are helping me in my life
while back at Stonecroft. I write stories for my book with
Pauline, Maria and John who work in the activities room.
I think I am keeping up my skills and learning new ones.
