| Hello, my name is John Northall, and I have been coming to
Stonecroft House since 2001. I had always thought that I would like to
help in a Leonard Cheshire Home “sometime”, but retirement from full
time work gave me more time for a lot of things.
Not knowing what to expect, I found that I could help certain lady
residents with their own computers and assist one in particular to
go to outside classes and with work in the home. However, I have
not been able to help any gentlemen residents, as their needs are
different.
My own satisfaction, and reward has far outweighed any regrets and it
is true to say that I have got as much enjoyment from doing it as those
I may have benefited. I enjoy the company of residents and staff
of all ages, especially when trips outside the home are involved.
Taking part in fund raising activities is totally new to me…another
surprise. So, if you can give some time, weekdays or weekends
however short, please do. Working with a resident on a one to one basis
can be very satisfying and you can be sure of solid support, especially
if you can make a difference. I should have started years ago!. |
